Water Generously in Dry Conditions:

During high temperatures, the greatest danger to your plants is not receiving enough water to survive. Making sure your soil retains enough moisture must be your top priority, as it’s imperative, with such dry and hot conditions only increasing over the summer period that this is monitored daily.

We believe that retaining this moisture and finding the best ways in maintaining a backyard that’s well hydrated regularly and more frequently should be a core focus.

It’s a given, that the most obvious way to care for your plants is through increased watering. However, bear in mind that over-watering can actually do more harm than good and can be damaging, even in summer, in the sense that you may drown the plant. So it’s a must just to be mindful of the water usage, and how often you’re attending to your backyard. As it’s important to maintain a healthy routine and dedicate an adequate amount of attention towards your plants in order to help them survive the heat. A definite must this summer, if you haven’t already, is introducing mulch into your backyard. With mulch being able to retain up to 70% more water in soil than unmulched soil, it’s a no brainer that you make this a permanent resident in your garden. Avoid The Crowds:

What many people aren’t unaware of when planting in the backyard, is the over-crowding that can occur with plants. Plants become overwhelmed when positioned too close together, as this shortage of space leaves these crowded plants to create their own humidity. What this then does is allow for diseases such as downy and powdery mildew to thrive and become a regular burden in the garden.

To ensure this is avoided over the summer make sure you designate enough space between your plants. If you have positioned them too close to one another you run the risk of the plants growing poorly due to the on-going competition and fight for nutrients, water and light.

So if you get out there and contribute the right amount of space between plants this will rapidly improve the airflow around them which will greatly reduce this humidity and allocate foliage to dry more quickly.
